Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMURIEL GRACE MORTON (nee SMITH) January 15, 1927 - November 15, 2011 Muriel died peacefully at Riverview Health Centre in the early morning of November 15, 2011. She was holding my hand and we were listening to Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter Michele (Jim) and beloved granddaughter, Alexandra. She was predeceased by her husband and best friend Tommy, her parents and her sister. Mum was born and raised in Minnedosa. Her parents were Bert and Irene Smith (nee Grierson). She was elder sister to Ed and Doreen. Mum moved to Winnipeg in 1945 and attended business college. She lived at the YWCA with good friends Barb, Noreen and Pricey. There was many great stories about their time there---and some I'm sure we were never told! In 1948 Mum married Tommy who was truly the love of her life. I was born in 1958 and was a much loved daughter. Our house was filled with love and laughter and good times with family and friends. Mum and Dad loved to travel and throughout the years there were many great vacations. But best of all were the summers at Clear Lake---special memories for Mum and she was able to spend time with her dear friend Barb and her family. Mum was an avid bridge player and voracious reader. She loved music and theatre and for many years she and Dad had tickets to the WSO and MTC. She also loved sports and was a fan of the Bombers attending many games at the old Osborne Stadium. She volunteered her time with the United Way, Red Cross, St. Agnes Guild and the Children's Hospital Book Market. She bowled and she curled. She sewed and she knitted and at Pricey's urging, she even tried crocheting. She was an intelligent, thoughtful woman and was fiercely loyal friend. She loved a good argument! She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She and Alex spent many happy days together---Alex always thought she had a pretty cool grandma. We loved her deeply and were loved and supported unconditionally by her always. We started to lose her slowly to Alzheimer's but she still managed to show her spunk and wit until close to the end. The staff at Riverview will remember how she loved to dance! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff on B-1 at Riverview. You daily provide your patients with compassion, dignity, respect and humour. We will never forget the care you gave to Mum. A celebration of Muriel's life will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Augustine United Church, 444 River Ave., Winnipeg. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Society or to Riverview Health Centre THOMSON FUNERAL HOME 669 BROADWAY, WINNIPEG, MB R3C OX4 783-7211 Condolences may be sent to www.thomsonfuneralchapel.com
